The Best Homemade Play Dough Recipe Ever

We (dh & I) hate playdoh. We hate it for 2 reasons.  1) the rug and 2) the stench. While I love how Wee Boy is engulfed with it for 2-3 hours when we give him a new tub, it inevitably results in me on my hands and knees trying to pick it out of the carpet fibers.

Today I made it from scratch and my sister, who has a home daycare says it doesn’t go hard and lasts for ages if kept in a tub. Because we have a golden retriever (aka Mr Shedding Fur) and Wee Boy drops everything on the floor loads, I don’t expect it to last forever because it’ll get full of hair but if it doesn’t stick to the rug and doesn’t stink, I love it!

Here’s the recipe for a small batch. Make many in different colours and store in air tight tubs. Cool for a while before using as it’ll be hot.

Homemade Play Dough

———————

1 cup of flour

1/2 cup of salt

1 pkg of Kool-Aid (any colour you like)

1 tablespoon Cream of Tartar powder (available in the spice section of your grocery store)

1 tbsp of Oil

1 cup of boiling water

I made one batch and started mixing before adding the water and it turned out sticky and goopy so I binned it and made another batch and just put the ingredients in in the order above and stirred once I put the hot water in and it turned out perfect and smooth.
